Another day in paradise - Phil Collins

I know this song since I was a kid but today I watched the video and paid attention to the lyrics and they literally gave me goose bumps. The words are so true and sad. And the accompanying video makes it even more tragic. The song is about the poor and homeless in US. But it applies even more accurately to India. How many millions of people live life in real hell everyday. Compare their lives with ours and we realize that "It's just another day for you and me in paradise"

Lyrics:

She calls out to the man on the street
sir, can you help me?
Its cold and Ive nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?

He walks on, doesnt look back
He pretends he cant hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, its another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, its just another day for you,
You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see shes been crying
Shes got blisters on the soles of her feet
Cant walk but shes trying

Oh think twice...

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that shes been there
Probably been moved on from every place
cos she didnt fit in there

Oh think twice...

The Devil Programmer

I am self proclaimed devil programmer now ! Look at the following error message which Valgrind (A memory checking tool for C programs) gave me while I was testing one of my programs on it.

==25161== More than 100000 total errors detected. I'm not reporting any more.
==25161== Final error counts will be inaccurate. Go fix your program!
==25161== Rerun with --error-limit=no to disable this cutoff. Note
==25161== that errors may occur in your program without prior warning from
==25161== Valgrind, because errors are no longer being displayed.

Valgrind is definitely not a very amicable tool ;) This message especially is quite hurting to a programmer's false ego !!

I mean can you imagine! Someone can actually write a program with 100000 errors in it ! I have just done it !!!

P.S.
I have yet to find the cause of these problems. I hope I can do that in this birth. Otherwise my soul will wander in eternity, searching for root causes of 100000 errors.

Where are you my friend

One of my naive attempts at writing poetry. Dedicated to one of my best friends.

Where are you my friend

Those days we spent together
Unruffled by the world around
Surfing on the sea of friendship
Caring not for tomorrow to come

The days are gone and the time unknown
All look like a rusty book on a shelf
But it has the smell that haunts me
And I take the book and turn the pages

I see characters all colorful
Each one with a story to tell
All look distant but they are in my eyes
And I feel their beats when I hear my heart

And in one such story i see you
You and i and the beautiful world
The story is of love and friendship
I read it and my heart sings with joy

But the story ends without an end
The characters lost in the oblivion of time
Where are you my friend i am here
Stuck in a moment with you in mind

The Good Shepherd

When you sit on the edge of the chair in a movie which has no action, no ghosts, no romance or no thrill then it is the indicator of the fact that the movie is strongly gripping because of its acting, plot and characters.

Similar was the case with The Good Shepherd. Directed by the legendary Robert De Niro, the movie is story revolving around the life of a CIA agent. The plot has two timelines. One during the world war II and the one depicting the events during the political conspiracies in Cuba in early 1960s. It is not a movie which you would want to watch with a flippant mood, a pitcher of coke and popcorn. No, this movie is very serious and it keeps you literally on the edge of your chair.

Although the movie is slow paced, you would not want to miss any series of events in the movie because if you did, you will be cut off from the movie. I had tough time catching all the dialogues and also keeping up with unfolding of the seemingly disconnected events. But it all makes sense in the end when the director starts to put pieces together on the board.

The character of Edward Wilson played by Matt Damon is quite intriguing. His personality is shown to be extremely introvert. He is shown to sacrifice everything he loved for the sake of serving his country yet you will not hear any patriotic belaboring from him. He silently conveys his commitment and dedication to his country through his work. There are some brilliant dialogues in the movie. For example,

"Let me ask you something... we Italians, we got our families, and we got the church; the Irish they have the homeland, Jews their tradition;... What about you people, Mr. Wilson, what do you have?"

"The United States of America, the rest of you are just visiting."

This dialogue really hits you hard if you are also a 'visitor' of this country like me. But it shows the kind of spirit that an american national has for their home country. Only if we had shown this spirit to all the invaders of our nation, we would have been a different country today.

Angelina Jolie is wasted in the movie. And so is Robert De Niro himself. Matt Damon literally shadows all the other actors in the movie. This movie is definitely a defining role for his acting career.

Watch the movie if you really want to know the other side of CIA story.
